Modern senior portraits for Kansas City's senior guys
Let’s give your senior guy something special
to celebrate the most iconic year of his life
I’ve photographed hundreds of senior guys over the years, and during every single photoshoot, I can always so easily see both the boy and the man through my lens, and it always stops me in my tracks. This is truly such a transitional time for both your senior guy, and for you, his parents.
As you may have noticed, many photographers focus almost entirely on the girls - and many do a good job of it. But photographing the guys is not something they enjoy or seek out. That’s not me! I love my guys! About 4 out of 10 seniors I photograph are boys, and I love every single one. I work really hard to put him at ease by being relaxed and happy, and by developing a motherly yet teasing rapport with him during his shoot. Some seniors do show up quite stiff or nervous, which I come expecting. But before long, he’s relaxed, too, and even having a good time.
For each senior guy I photograph, I work on two different styles - a more traditional style (what I call “grandma pleasers”), and then also more visually eye-catching and artistic images that kids today really love and want. We live in a visual society, and giving the boys more than basic portraits is really important to me. Scroll to the bottom to see some examples of the "Grandma Pleasers" vs the "Arty Ones."
In previous years, too many parents just wanted “let’s just get this over with” style short sessions, but I have seen a major change in the last 2-3 years. Today’s parents choose to honor their sons with something truly memorable. I love that!
Fun fact: I love the senior portrait industry so much that in my off season a host a podcast for other photographers about the work we do.
Let’s celebrate your senior guy!
He’s something special.
His senior portraits should be special too.
I would love to help you get that for him.
